Doon University is located in the lush green foothills of Shivalik Range. As part of the Campus Master Plan the Central Library for the University is proposed as the focal point of this centre of learning. While Doon University encompasses varied spaces for range of multi-disciplinary academic programmes which includes educational, informational and research facilities - the Central Library is strategically planned as an amalgamation of this entire Academic Cluster and is perceived as the place for active interaction amongst students and faculty. The access for the Central Library from the University Entrance is celebrated as a direct visual and physical axis. This axis is intersected by multiple pathways with variety of interconnected landscaped spaces in order to encourage learning, creativity and innovation. The foreground to the library is marked with a prominent amphitheatre where the library building is entered on the First Floor in order to give it a grand elevation and negotiate the transition of amphitheatre levels. The building internally is designed as a rhombic 'light well' that brings in the play of natural light to the reading and spill over spaces around it along with anchoring the overall circulation with play of levels. Amalgamation of geometric shapes in the planning of the block, ergonomically designed furniture and integration of technology were other parameters in design development. This Library block is well provided with IT support, Language Learning, Cyber and Automation, Book Lift, Lecture Halls, Conferencing Facility, Imaging Rooms, E-Resources etc. making it an all-round self-sustained to act as a large resource centre.
