Multiple functions and spaces such as laboratories, offices, customer excellence centre were all woven together with a common colour pallette, yet bringing out their own individual identity. The Industrial Customer Excellence Centre is designed within the Factory Shed. Exploring the shed height available, a mezzanine floor in steel was created from exposed castellated beams. This gave visibility of the support structure creating a response to its material context with its function. The company’s key requirement was to have a Monochromatic Palette to allow them to create, test and process colour samples for multiple clients. Envisaged for this Polymer Colours Production Unit, our design philosophy was to keep a Grey Palette and add series of colours in proposed elements. Despite the glass, joints and junctions had to be designed to satisfy the acoustic needs of typical meeting and cabin spaces. The double height visitors’ lounge was designed with vibrant coloured seating & light fixtures having a visual connection with the mezzanine. The integrated display systems in the lounge were planned to merge in vertical greens bringing life to the enclosed space. The baffle & open cell ceilings connect the industrial look accentuating multiple structural beams and services. Lacquered glass panelling for writing in the conference catered for reflective faces bringing in a functional and aesthetic angle. Being part of the Factory Shed, services such as fire fighting, IT, electrical, HVAC, gas, exhaust systems were all required to travel on both floors. Innovations such as castellated beams, baffle ceilings, open cell ceiling were designed for all services to travel without reducing the spatial heights. The project benefitted by having easy maintenance access to all services.
